After 27 years, Patek Philippe has launched an entirely new collection called Cubitus. The line vaguely resembles the well-known Nautilus, but it also has distinct characteristics.
Patek Philippe continues to follow the trend of sporty yet luxurious models. This new angular design comes in a square shape. In essence, Cubitus feels like Nautilus, but with all the curves replaced by straight lines. Other design elements are similar: two attachments on both sides, a two-part case construction, the overall shape of the hands on the textured dial, and the bracelet.
The collection consists of three models: steel (ref. 5821A), two-tone (ref. 5821AR), and platinum (ref. 5822P). Let’s take a closer look at each one.
This model is entirely made of steel, with horizontal embossing on the dark olive dial. The dial also features luminescent coating, providing excellent readability of all elements. The bracelet is integrated and comes with a convenient extender for easy adjustment to any wrist size.
The watch includes a date window as a complication. The movement is driven by a central rotor. The back of the watch reveals part of the mechanism, and where it’s hidden, there’s an exclusive finish that echoes the motifs on the dial.
This version will retail for €40,575.
This model embodies the essence of elegant sports watches: the classic steel version is enhanced with rose gold to highlight its aesthetic. Rose gold is used on the bracelet, case, hands, hour markers, and the date window frame.
The movement is the same as in the steel model – the 26-330 S C caliber with a 45-hour power reserve.
The retail price of this model will be approximately €60,275.
The most intriguing model of the three in terms of complications: in addition to the precise timekeeping and date window, it also features two subdials – one for seconds and another for Moon phases and the day of the week.
The movement is different from the other models: it houses the 240 caliber with a new version of the micro-rotor. The mechanism consists of 353 parts and is only 0.77 mm thick. It also allows for adjusting all time settings at any moment without risking damage to the movement.
Another key difference in the Cubitus 5822P is the strap, replacing the bracelet. It’s made from a composite material in blue, with a textile-like embossing and cream stitching along the length.
The retail price of this model will be €89,908.
